Goodbye Winter. Thank you. Thank you for the opportunity to, yet again, go inside and introspect. For the cold nights that brought me closer to my bride. For the short days that allowed me the opportunity to appreciate the longer ones. For the beauty and silence of your snowfalls. For the smell of wood-burning fires; the sound of the crackling flame. Until we meet again, good bye.

This marks the second big storm of the year. As much as I’m ready for Spring, it’s quite difficult to argue the beauty of the snow.

Millions of wishes

I take my dog, Max, to a park pretty close to my home. Every time we venture, regardless of how many years I’ve been going there, nature finds a way to offer me some statement of beauty. Just before I came to the walking bridge, near the end of the walk, I looked left. I saw these pods that were bursting with seeds. The seeds that carried the wishes that I used to make (and quite frankly still do) when I was a boy. I remembered playing outside chasing the wishes through the wind praying only to catch them to have my wishes granted. It appears, from the looks of this one that there are a million more wishes, just waiting to be caught. I don’t know what type of plant this was, to me it was simply a reminder of how magical nature can be when coupled with a memory.

Snow and Ice

For months, each time I drove over this small bridge on my way into work, I’d glance over and look at the stream that flowed underneath. I’d think to myself, I have to come photograph this place. Well, I finally made the time. Here are two of my favorites.

Watercolor

Yes, I know watercolor is a painting technique. I’m not really one to follow the rules. I guess I’m missing Spring at this point. I was going through some old photos – cleaning shop, you know – and came upon some old favorites. On their own as photographs, they stand quite well. Adding a little spice, like watercolor, gives them new life.

Funny how things like that can be applied to life.

Just add a little spice to something old – something you used to love that perhaps needs a little pepper, a little paprika, a little watercolor. Go ahead, I dare you!

The Dump Truck

There it sits, yellow and black, only room for one in the cab
4 tires, big tires, why are they so big
There’s lot to carry
So many moments, so many things

I was angry at you for waking me up – that’s in there
I was in the middle of working and you called – that’s in there
I thought about how my dog is getting older – that’s in there too

Last week, when I wanted to go do something
You asked me to help you instead – that’s in there
I was driving and that person in front of me cut me off – that’s in there
I was thinking about an old friend – one who’s not with us anymore – that’s in there too

No wonder the tires are so big

Where to dump it all????
I can’t just leave it here in the middle of the road, can I?
Someone may trip on it, or worse, pick it up as their own.

In this world of ‘green’ can I recycle it?
What the hell would I turn it into to?
It gets recycled enough!

I show it to some people and they want to fix it all
Like it’s broken somehow.

I just want to dump it!

Ah, yes, over there – that circle.
No, it’s not a cul-de-sac, it’s a circle
Yes it’s all men. I’m a man – doesn’t that make sense.

It’s my turn
I talk about how heavy my load is
How I’ve been collecting it over the last few weeks
Some is leaking over the side – that’s what told me it was time

How does this dump work
Is there a button
A switch
Oh, it’s that easy
Just talk about what’s inside
I’m pissed off at…I’m sad that…I just wish…
And out it goes. Somehow gets swept away.
Now my truck’s empty. Ready for a new load.
Better check those tires.

All I remember feeling as I drove away was a cool breeze.
